Overview
Are you worried about your servers and PC's being secure from malicious attack? You could have the most secure firewall running, and up-to-date anti-virus software installed, but if the known flaws in your Windows systems aren't 'patched', your business could be at risk from a malicious attack.
WSUS is a free product available for download directly from Microsoft, and is installed onto a server.
From here it will download and push out to all of your network devices the security and critical updates Microsoft releases to fix flaws in its Windows Server 2003, Windows XP, Windows 2000 and newer Office applications.
WSUS needs managing, and the updates checked to make sure there is no conflict with your existing software.
SC can do this for you as part of a Server Management (SM) contract.
In-depth
Microsoft releases security and critical updates to fix flaws in its Windows Server 2003, Windows XP with Service Pack 2, Windows 2000 with Service Pack 4 and newer Office applications on the second Tuesday of every month.
These updates can patch serious security flaws that have been detected in Windows operating systems, and as such need to be rolled-out ASAP
These updates need to be centrally downloaded, tested for your business software and applications, then pushed out to all devices on your network.
WSUS is free to install and run, but can require a lengthy install that should be done by someone familiar with the software.
SC can do the install for your and manage the entire process every month to ensure your devices are protected.
